The discovery and measurement of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.body-balance-check.com\/en\/glossar\/biophotons\/\">biophotons<\/a> has led to light no longer being regarded solely as an external stimulus factor, but as an <strong>intrinsic component of biological information processes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>What are biophotons?<\/h3>\n<p>Biophotons are <strong>ultra-weak <a href=\"https:\/\/www.body-balance-check.com\/en\/glossar\/light-quanta-in-biological-systems\/\">light quanta<\/a><\/strong> in the UV to visible spectral range. They are continuously emitted by cells of living organisms, both animal and plant. The intensity of this emission is extremely low: approximately <strong>100 to 1,000 photons per square centimetre per second<\/strong>. To illustrate the relationship, we can use the comparison with a light bulb: a light bulb emits about <strong>10\u00b9\u00b3 to 10\u00b9\u2077 times more photons<\/strong> per cm\u00b2 per second than biological cells do through biophoton emission.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their low intensity, biophotons exhibit a <strong>high degree of order and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.body-balance-check.com\/en\/glossar\/coherence-in-biophoton-radiation\/\">coherence<\/a><\/strong>, which distinguishes them from thermal or random light radiation.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the traditional view that light in biological systems only arises in response to external influences (e.g. light sources), studies show that <strong>cells produce light independently<\/strong>, presumably via oxidative processes in cell metabolism, for example in the <strong>mitochondria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Importance for cell communication and regulation<\/h3>\n<p>One of the most fascinating hypotheses about photon emission in living cells is its <strong>role in intercellular communication<\/strong>. According to this hypothesis, cells emit light pulses to <strong>transmit information to neighbouring or distant cells<\/strong> \u2013 similar to an optical network. This form of communication would be much faster and more precise than chemical signal transmission via neurotransmitters or hormones.<\/p>\n<p>Research by Fritz-Albert Popp and others shows that <strong>photon emission varies depending on the state of the organism<\/strong> \u2013 e.g. during periods of illness, inflammation or stress. Healthy cells emit <strong>highly coherent, orderly light<\/strong>, while this order decreases in the event of illness or energetic disturbance. This suggests that <strong>biophotons act as carriers of biological order<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Photons as information carriers<\/h3>\n<p>At the heart of the theory is the assumption that <strong>light transports not only energy but also information<\/strong>. Cells could therefore use photons to send <strong>\u2018light codes\u2019<\/strong> that control biochemical or genetic processes. This could explain why many biological processes \u2013 such as cell division, differentiation or healing \u2013 are <strong>highly precise and synchronised<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The photon emission could also contribute to the <strong>self-regulation<\/strong> of the organism. Critics complain about the lack of integration into established biochemical models. Proponents, on the other hand, see it as a new dimension of life that bridges the gap between <strong>biology, physics and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.body-balance-check.com\/en\/glossar\/consciousness\/\">consciousness<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Interdisciplinary fields such as <strong>quantum biology<\/strong> and <strong>biofield research<\/strong> are also increasingly investigating the role of light in living systems. Advances in the technology of highly sensitive photon detectors now make it possible to measure and specifically analyse these low-intensity light signals \u2013 for example, in diagnostics or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.body-balance-check.com\/en\/glossar\/bioenergetic-testing\/\">bioenergetic testing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>photon emission of living cells<\/strong> is a fascinating phenomenon at the interface between physics, biology and medicine. It shows that life is not only a chemical system, but also a light-based system \u2013 organised via highly precise, coherent light signals.
