This form of light emission has been intensively researched in modern biophysics and became particularly well known through the work of German physicist Prof. Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp<\/strong>. The discovery and measurement of biophotons<\/a> has led to light no longer being regarded solely as an external stimulus factor, but as an intrinsic component of biological information processes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What are biophotons?<\/h3>\n

Biophotons are ultra-weak light quanta<\/a><\/strong> in the UV to visible spectral range. They are continuously emitted by cells of living organisms, both animal and plant. The intensity of this emission is extremely low: approximately 100 to 1,000 photons per square centimetre per second<\/strong>. To illustrate the relationship, we can use the comparison with a light bulb: a light bulb emits about 10\u00b9\u00b3 to 10\u00b9\u2077 times more photons<\/strong> per cm\u00b2 per second than biological cells do through biophoton emission.<\/p>\n

Despite their low intensity, biophotons exhibit a high degree of order and coherence<\/a><\/strong>, which distinguishes them from thermal or random light radiation.<\/p>\n

Contrary to the traditional view that light in biological systems only arises in response to external influences (e.g. light sources), studies show that cells produce light independently<\/strong>, presumably via oxidative processes in cell metabolism, for example in the mitochondria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Importance for cell communication and regulation<\/h3>\n

One of the most fascinating hypotheses about photon emission in living cells is its role in intercellular communication<\/strong>. According to this hypothesis, cells emit light pulses to transmit information to neighbouring or distant cells<\/strong> \u2013 similar to an optical network. This form of communication would be much faster and more precise than chemical signal transmission via neurotransmitters or hormones.<\/p>\n

Research by Fritz-Albert Popp and others shows that photon emission varies depending on the state of the organism<\/strong> \u2013 e.g. during periods of illness, inflammation or stress. Healthy cells emit highly coherent, orderly light<\/strong>, while this order decreases in the event of illness or energetic disturbance. This suggests that biophotons act as carriers of biological order<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Photons as information carriers<\/h3>\n

At the heart of the theory is the assumption that light transports not only energy but also information<\/strong>. Cells could therefore use photons to send \u2018light codes\u2019<\/strong> that control biochemical or genetic processes. This could explain why many biological processes \u2013 such as cell division, differentiation or healing \u2013 are highly precise and synchronised<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The photon emission could also contribute to the self-regulation<\/strong> of the organism. Like a biological \u2018light flow\u2019, coherence and frequency maintain or restore order in the system.<\/p>\n
